The Kealakehe High School Community Council 2014 Sarah Rosenberg Memorial Foundation Scholarships have been awarded to four students.
Recipients of the “Kupono” (Most Outstanding) WaveRider are: first place, Noah Han, who was awarded $2,000; second place, Kayla Milke, who received $1,500. “Most Charitable WaveRider” (Lokomaikai) first place winner is Leahi Camacho, who earned $2,000, second place, Ellycia Yokomizu, who received $1,500.
Applicants for the Kupono WaveRider Award are evaluated on academic achievements, as well as school and community involvement. The Lokomaikai WaveRider is awarded based on school and community involvement.
Han will attend Princeton to study medicine. Milke will attendthe University of Hawaii at Manoa and pursue a judicial doctrine. Camacho has not yet decided on the college but will pursue business and psychology and weaving in ministry.Yokomizu will attend the University of Portland for nursing.
The first place awardees will be the student speakers at graduation May 24.
The Kealakehe High School Community Council established four scholarships in 2000 supporting Kealakehe’s vision and mission of providing students not only with a quality education but also providing the community with young adults who are well-rounded, skilled, hard-working and willing to give back to their families, their community and the world. Since 2001, the Council has awarded 68 students a total of $105,500.
In 2005, the scholarships were named the Sarah Rosenberg Memorial Scholarships. Rosenberg was a student at Kealakehe High School from Aug. 2001 through Dec. 2004. She was killed in a traffic accident during her senior year.
